Went shooting with a bunch of photo enthusiasts and instagramers for the world wide instameet today. Started at Union Station where we got access to a vintage women's lounge space courtesy of the Chicago architecture foundation. Then we took the Chicago water taxi east and ended with coffee at Space. So much fun to see how different people photograph the day ! Here are my photos from the day.

I've missed the last couple of months 10 on 1o challenges ... bad me. But, hopefully I can be better for the coming months! Here's my September ten. Fresh off my trip to Italy, I decided to do my 10 on Sunday. It was the perfect lazy day - homemade waffles with the most amazing bourbon barrel honey, tea and magazines, the kitties loving having their momma home, putting together little travel gifts for friends, journaling (so I can remember what I did on my trip!) and the beginnings of photo editing - there's so far to go! It was the most beautiful day here in Chicago. Happy to be home!
summer in the garden
I finally decided to join the Chicago Botanic Garden - I seem to find myself up there at least once a season if not more, and I actually save some money with the membership so why not right? I ran up to test the Canon 16-35mm ultra wide angle lens to see if I would like it better than my 24-70mm. And while I love the results form the 16mm, I found that it really wasn't that big of a difference really. I was impressed at the bokeh it produced and image quality is nice and sharp. Its'a really lovely lens, but I think I will keep it on my wish list for a while longer and continue to rock my 24-70.
june
"A thin fog hung over the city... and the streets were very cold; for it was summer in Chicago."

It's a weekday and I still managed to get my ten on ten in - woot!Today was a completely dreary Chicago summer day - cold (54•) and as you can see I was in a jacket and scarf, that's just wrong, wrong! It's June! Started the day with a protein shake and toast and a little beautification. Had to charge my Up band - try to do this when I am most still during the day so I don't miss any steps! Despite the cold temps I have mad the switch to iced tea for the summer { love } and snapped a photo of cute little angels as part of today's Fat Mum Slim photo challenge - today's word is 'fly.' Lightened up the rainy day with a new CD from Nicolay - fabulous DJ and part of The Foreign Exchange. Oh and my custom Vans came today ... and ... I don't love them (booooooo). I have been on the hunt for a fun "animal sneaker" since I saw this on Pinterest ... I have ordered six pair now and nothing looks right on me at all. Oh well, I guess it's time to move on and find another shoe to obsess over.
Hope you had a great Tuesday! Happy 10!

Saturday sunrise
Today's prompt for Fat Mum Slim photo challenge is "sunrise." I am never up for sunrise - not a morning person - so I was not sure what to do for a photo. Well, Phoebe decided to wake me with the sun at 5:20AM. I laid there for a couple minutes and decided to hop out of bed, throw on a jacket and head over to the beach. Boy, I've been missing out!! It's warm light over the soft waves with cool breeze and birds soaring high above... Lovely, just lovely.
senior shaun
A friend of a friend has been asking for a couple of years now that I take photos of her son, and this being his senior year of high school, she really wanted senior portraits that were different than what everyone else would have in town. Since I'm not a portrait photographer - as stated here on this blog many times before - I declined several times, but finally decided why not. They can still have other photos taken if they aren't happy with what we get... Shaun is the first person I photographed that I don't personally know and I have to say that made it extra difficult! With my friends I can joke around and have a good idea of where to go for cityscapes and good times for light ... etc. This was scheduled for 2pm on a bright sunny day - not great. I really had to make the best of it and find shade anywhere I could. And... he's got glasses, oy! Do you know how hard it is to not get reflections in glasses? Even harder to try to remove said reflections if they do creep in ... Man, this one was tough! I think they are happy with the results - they used them for his graduation party invitation, but my own critique ... meh. It's REALLY hard to capture the essence of another person in photographs. Huge props to you professional portrait shooters out there!!
